Brandon’s Birthday

This past Wednesday, the Awaken Project family celebrated Brandon’s birthday! We were so excited to have the opportunity to share in his birthday joy with him, especially for his eighteenth.

So, in honor of this, I decided to get his thoughts for this week’s blog post. To do this, I asked Brandon a short list of questions in reflection of the week.

To start, I asked him to tell me about one thing he learned; since TAP students had the honor of learning from a new teacher this week, Pastor Dave Wollan, I wanted to know about some of the takeaways Brandon had.

Brandon responded saying that he thoroughly enjoyed the class and thought Dave had a lot of wisdom to share, but, in particular, he loved studying and reviewing some of the parables in the synoptic gospels. Specifically, in the book of Matthew, we discussed a few parables and what they tell readers about Jesus and the Kingdom of God.

Next, I asked Brandon what his favorite meal was this past week. He described the meal that Steven made for the group for Tuesday’s community dinner. Brandon said that the Pesto-Pasta-Italian Sausage-Steven Original “hit the spot” and expressed how good it was. Brandon also loved how this meal was followed by a lovely evening walk where the gang got the opportunity to enjoy the evening Alexandria air, as well as conversation with each other.

The final question I asked Brandon was, “What was your favorite moment from this past week?” He then proceeded to tell me about how much he enjoyed getting the opportunity to give his testimony to our TAP community (on his birthday!). He appreciated sharing his heart and story with us all and complementing it with two of his favorite worship songs.

To top off the evening, the group shared a cookie cake and sang happy birthday to Brandon. He felt “grateful” to the group (and his family who ordered the cookie cake!) for making his day feel special.

Overall, the TAP students had lots to celebrate this week between Brandon’s first birthday as an adult and learning about the earthly ministry of our Lord through the gospels.

Excited for the week ahead!
